Matt jumps into bed. His father sits down beside him.
"What kind of day did you have?" he asked.
"It's a bad day for me," Matt answers." I have a fight with Ned. The teacher calls Mom about me. And Mom talks about it with me."
"Yes, part of the day is bad,"Mr. Gold says. "but there are good parts, too. Now it's time to go to sleep. So, tell me about the best thing today."
Matt smiles. "After school I go fishing," he says. "No one wants to go with me, so I don't think I can have any fun. But I do! I catch a fish!"
"I'm glad you have a good time,"Mr. Gold says. "Think about it until(直到……为止) you go to sleep. Happy dreams!"
"Good night, Dad," Matt says. His father kisses him good night.
Every night, Mr. Gold and Matt have a little talk like this. Matt always answers the same question," What is the best thing today?" And he always goes to sleep thinking about the best thing. He has many happy dreams!
Sometimes he has to think hard to find the best thing. Sometimes it is a very small thing. But he always finds one good thing to think about.
Matt's father teaches his son a good way to end his day. You may want to try it. If you do, why not begin this every night?
