International Nurses Day is celebrated around the world every May 12 to remember Florence Nightingale's birth. After the war, she kept on working, 15hospitals, opening training schools, and writing books. Thanks to Florence Nightingale, nurses are now properly trained to care for us all.

For lots of people in Britain, the 3lst of December, or New Year's Eve, is a big day of the year.

New Year's Eve parties can take place at different places. Some people hold a house party.

And some just go to their favourite pubs for a few drinks with their friends. Big cities, like London, have large and fantastic fireworks shows.

When it is twelve o'clock, people cheer and give each other a hug. They then sing a song called Auld Lang Syne together. Most people can hardly remember all the words of the song.

The parties then continue into the early morning with lots of dancing and drinking. Because of this , for a lot of people, New Year's Day is started with a hangover (宿醉)． Anyway, New Year's Day is always relaxing.

Once upon a time, there was a man who had four sons. All of them were very lazy.

The man worried a lot his sons' future because he was old and weak. One day, he (think) of an idea to let his sons realise the importance of work. A farmer came they were going to leave. He told the sons about farming. Then the four sons followed the farmer's advice and planted some (vegetable) in the garden. Since the garden was very fertile (肥沃的) with lots of water, it became the (good) vegetable garden in the town. The four sons sold the vegetables at a good price and got a lot of money. At last, they realised that working hard was the "treasure box".

Shandong Province held the 36th Weifang International Kite Festival on the third Saturday of April in2019. A lot of kite fans from all over the world went there to join in the interesting festival on that day. Different kinds of beautiful kites flew in the sky.

Over 2, 000 years ago, a man named Gongshu Ban from Shandong Province invented a kite. It was made of bamboo. In the following centuries, kite-making developed well in China.

The first Weifang International Kite Festival was celebrated in 1984. In 1983, the Chairman of the Seattle Kite Association David Checkley took part in a kite show and later he visited several kite manufacturers(制造商). He found that kites made in Weifang were the best. He suggested holding the first Weifang International Kite Festival there. After that, Weifang began to hold it in April every year.

At the fifth festival, Weifang became known as the" Kite Capital of the World". Today, Weifang is home to over 300 kite factories. People in Weifang sell their products to about 40 countries and regions(地区) , making up 85 %of the domestic(国内的)markets and 65 %of the foreign markets.

However, there are also some problems. "Few people would like to learn about traditional kite-making," said Yang Hongwei. Yang's grandfather was once one of the best kite makers in Weifang. Nowadays, Yang still uses traditional ways and skills to make kites. In her opinion, only traditional things can last for a long time. Since the1990s, she has travelled to many countries to teach and take part in kite shows. "I won't stop teaching the ways of making kites as long as someone wants to learn. Meanwhile, the government should hold more kite festivals in China or even overseas, "she said.

New Year's Eve is traditionally a time to spend with loved ones. People in the northern villages in China celebrated the New Year with all (种类) of fun ice activities.

"I am less busy during the winter (季节), so in winter, I want to have the same fun as when I was a (孩子). (在……之后) the lake is frozen, we go skating and play the Frisbee in the countryside, and enjoy (我们自己), "says a villager named Wang Xuewei.

Travelling into space is a special experience for everyone. Liu Yang, born in 1978, is China's first woman astronaut to travel into space. She still remembers what she said when she first saw the blue earth in space in 2012.

In November 2019, Liu gave a lecture (讲座) at a school in Beijing. Students from other schools in Tianjin and Hebei listened to her lecture online. It helped the students know more about space.

"I'm lucky that I was born and live in a great time and great country. That made it possible for me to fulfill my space dream, "Liu told the students that they could also be astronauts. Her stories about life in space attracted many students. And after her lecture, some ran to their school playground to simulate a rocket launch (模拟火箭发射) with their model rockets.

Malala Yousafzai, 24, is a Pakistani youth activist. She is (young ) person in the world ever to be named United Nations Messenger(信使)of Peace.
