    Bicycles in China

Bicycles are very popular in China. In our country you can see bicycles almost everywhere. When you walk on the road, you will find a lot of people riding bicycles to school, shops and anywhere else. Therefore(因此), China is known as “the kingdom of bicycles”. In China, many families have one or two bicycles.

Compared(与……比) with cars, bicycles have many advantages. First, they are much cheaper than cars. Most Chinese can't afford cars, but they can afford bicycles. Second, bicycles are small enough to park anywhere, while cars need a larger piece of land to park. What's more, with lower speed, bicycles are safer than cars.

However, bicycles also bring some problems. Some riders don't obey the traffic rules and some riders don't think about others' safety. So they ride too fast. During rush hours, too many bicycles may cause traffic jams. We still have a long way to go to solve the problem.

Where can you see bicycles in China?

“The kingdom of bicycles” here is saying ____.

Which of the following is NOT an advantage of bicycles?

  • 8. 根据短文内容完成下列任务。

Years ago, if a teenager had some problems in his life, he might write about them in his diary. Now a teenager might surf the Internet and write about his problems in his blog.  In some ways, a diary and a blog are almost the same. What makes a blog different from a diary?

___________1 I have a younger sister. Sometimes I read her blog. She writes about things like waking up early for swimming practice and not studying enough for her chemistry exam. When I was her age, I wrote the same things, but only in my diary. After I finished writing, I would hide (藏)my diary in a secret place because I was worried that someone else might read it!

Blogs have good points, of course. If I feel lonely and write “Nobody cares about me" in my diary, no one will know about it. However, if my sister writes the same words in her blog, her friends will quickly reply and tell her how much they like her. The blog helps people keep in contact (联系)with their friends.

A blog is public so it has some bad points.

___________2 If I am angry with a friend during school and write something bad about him in my diary, he will never know. However, if my sister writes something bad about a friend, that friend may read her blog and cry.

    ___________3

If people are careful, writing the blog is really a good way to communicate with others. However, I still enjoy my diary!

    将下面的句子还原到文中空缺处。

     A. So we must be very careful to write.

     B. The biggest problem is that anyone can read what you write.

     C. The biggest difference is that a blog is much more public than a diary.

The underlined word "secret" means “___________” in Chinese.

What may happen if a girl writes that nobody cares about her in her blog?

American people like to say “Thank you” when others help them or say something kind to them. People of many countries do so, too. It is a very good habit.
You should say “Thank you” when someone passes you the salt on the table, when someone walking in front of you keeps the door open for you, when someone says you have done your work well, or you have bought a nice thing, or your city is very beautiful. “Thank you” is used not only between friends, but also between parents and children, brothers and sisters.
“Excuse me” is another short sentence they use. When you hear someone say so behind you, you know that somebody wants to walk past you without touching(触摸) you. It's not polite(礼貌) to break (打断) others when they are talking. If you want to speak to one of them, say “Excuse me” first, and then begin talking. You should also do so when you begin to cough(咳嗽)  or make any noise before others.
Let's learn to say “Thank you” and “Excuse me”.

You should say “Thank you” when _____.

From the passage we know “Thank you” is ______ .

You should say “Excuse me” if you want to _____ .

When you are going to ask someone to tell you the way, you should say “_____”.

This passage mostly tells us the way ____.
